Sustainability

Considering the future…

Managing our emissions

We recognise the 3 key scopes of emissions and the importance of addressing each of these. For us this begins with regular management review to effectively plan for managing and reducing these emissions by setting objectives, documenting our aspects & impacts and implementing control measures. This process has driven many of our positive sustainability achievements, most notably including:

  • 46kW Solar PV array & ASHP at our Head Office
  • 10 Electric Vehicles
  • REFCOM ELITE Membership (best practice in managing one of our biggest impacts)
  • Opening and operation of our dedicated 4,000 sq. ft. waste management centre

Sourcing from a sustainability conscious supply chain is also vital to the integrity of our commitment toward sustainability as we recognise that our efforts to minimise our direct emissions would count for very little if we neglected the emissions we are vicariously responsible for through our supply chain.

By implementing these measures and staying a cut above the market, this intrinsically helps our customers to become more sustainable by reducing their scope 3 emissions when compared with utilising less carbon efficient contractors.

Carbon Reduction Service Offering

We recognise the unique opportunity that our industry provides us with to reduce carbon emissions / energy usage throughout our customer base, such that we have developed our service offering to best serve our clients, this includes:

Free-cooling solutions

Dependant on the requirements / set point of your cooling equipment, it may be beneficial to make use of ambient air in the colder seasonal weather to reduce energy usage.

Partial & full heat recovery

What you are doing with the heat rejected to the atmosphere from your cooling systems is a worthwhile consideration, especially in large commercial settings as there may be a reuse case for this energy.

Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP)

Albeit not the cost saving solutions many had initially hoped for, air source heat pump equipment in the place of conventional gas boilers and other heating / hot water solutions, can help to reduce carbon emissions substantially.

Solar PV

Ever growing in popularity, we have been keen to follow the market and provide a solar PV installation offering as a means of reducing energy consumption and emissions.

EC Fan replacements

EC fans are considerably more efficient than their AC and DC counterparts, consuming between 30 – 70% less energy and typically have a much greater useful life. The potential savings from retro fits can make such replacements a quick win for many.

LED Lighting

Similarly, LED lighting consumes upwards of 75% energy than traditional lighting.

The value in
the best solution

These solutions help to demonstrate the value in selecting the best solution rather than the cheapest and how small differences in specification / design can make big differences to whole life cost. You can trust Airco to be conscious of designing in, and maximising these opportunities in the solutions we present.

With technology naturally advancing with a focus on efficiency, it’s often worth consulting those with exposure to the industries latest offerings to help identify where these advancements can help to reduce energy consumption and emissions. Simple direct equipment upgrade schemes can often help to increase sustainability and reduce energy consumption.

Sharing our knowledge with such schemes through discussions around what we have accomplished for our wider customer base and the new technologies we are familiar with, helps to open up and identify overwise unforeseen opportunities. As such, we encourage new and existing customer alike to get in touch with us to see what may be possible.

Our skilled and passionate team can prepare comprehensive designs and cost saving calculations to help with making informed decisions about potential schemes.

What they say…

‘We have been working in partnership with Airco now for the last 2 years and their support has been invaluable to us as a charity. Run With It is about supporting numeracy and literacy and work based skills alongside building confidence and self esteem. Airco were keen to reach out to schools within the local community to not only support the development and understanding of these subjects but also give young people an experience to remember and inspire them to achieve. In 2019-2020 academic year Airco supported 6 schools and approximately 180 children and this year that support will stretch to 250 children. The support this academic year is going directly to help young people who have been impacted by the pandemic, supporting them to catch up academically but also support the health and mental well-being through this difficult time.
As a charity financial contribution is important but when a business, like Airco, really understands the value and wants to delve deeper into how the support makes a difference, it’s a pleasure to work alongside them. I hope we can continue to work with them over the coming years and support many more young people. A huge thanks to Neil Fisher and all the team at Airco for the support.’
